Thank you very much for your question. Sleeping adequately ensures that the day and night optimal variation of hormones (called diurnal variation) is maintained, which is essential in preventing obesity. Stress, as can arise from decreased sleep among other factors, can also lead to obesity. Excessive sleep on the other hand leads to less energy expenditure and accumulation of consumed calories as fat tissue, which also leads to obesity.
