EdTech opportunities in Kano State, Nigeria, offer an effective way to improve Foundational Literacy & Numeracy (FLN) education outcomes in the region. Our multi-disciplinary team at Bayero University is focused on improving access to existing EdTech platforms, ensuring they meet local needs, and providing bespoke physical and mental adaptations to enable learners to access the content. Our team includes experts in pediatrics, education, computer science, and mechatronics engineering. Together, we recognize that there are already a range of EdTech platforms available, but these platforms are not always accessible to learners in Kano State. Our team is working to ensure that learners in Kano State can access these platforms and that the content is tailored to their specific needs. To achieve this, we are working with EdTech providers to provide feedback and input on the development of the platforms to ensure they meet the needs of learners in Kano State. We are also providing bespoke physical and mental adaptations to enable learners with diverse abilities to access the content. For example, we are developing adaptations for learners with visual and hearing impairments to ensure they can access the content. In addition, we are working to ensure that the EdTech platforms are user-friendly and easily accessible, with a focus on making them available to learners in both urban and rural areas. By leveraging the latest technological advancements, such as mobile learning and gamification, we hope to make FLN education more engaging and effective for learners in Kano State. Through our approach at Bayero University, we are addressing the complex needs of learners in Kano State, taking into account the diverse range of abilities and learning styles. By improving access to existing EdTech platforms and ensuring they meet local needs, we hope to empower learners in Kano State to become confident, skilled, and enthusiastic lifelong learners. By monitoring user engagement and FLN education outcomes, we can make adjustments to our products to ensure that they are having the desired impact.
